Basic Painting Don'ts [by: Halloweenking]
Hotrodders Bulletin Board: Knowledge Base: Body-Exterior: Articles
- Never leave a roll of tape laying on its side on any surface about to be painted. The adhesive on the tape will leave a residue and could result in fisheyes.
- Try not to touch any surface to be painted with your hands or body. Your epidermis (skin) will leave body oils and could cause fisheyes.
- Do not use newspaper as masking paper over areas already painted or waiting to be painted. The newspaper leaves ink residues on the covered surface, resulting in fisheyes, discoloration, and could even result in the paint not sticking. It's alright to use a double layer on auto windows.
- Do not use any sprayable products (WD-40, liquid wrench, air fresheners, etc.) in the immediate area for at least 24 hours, longer if not well ventilated. The air could still contain small amounts of the product that might settle on your painting surface and cause problems.
