2.0/5.02.0/5.02.0/5.02.0/5.02.0/5.0   Quality Harness and Fuse Box, much else to be Desired
Reviewer: Anonymous     December 22, 2011
The Painless Kit I received was a Universal GM Muscle Car 12 circuit harness. The price was around $380. Let me first start by saying that the fuse box and harness itself are high quality and are not the reason for my disappointment. My reason for a less than spectacular review is the instruction booklet. I don't consider myself an expert at wiring by any means, which is why I chose a PAINLESS kit. I however, was very disappointed. For almost $400 for a non-vehicle specific kit, I would at least expect color coded, clear concise instructions. What I received was a black & white booklet with a few schematics and some poorly drafted isometric views of items such as the headlight switch/horn/etc.... The headlight switch in particular has a very poor graphic representation as you can barely tell which pins go where in the standard GM headlight plug by looking at the picture. The GM WIper schematic is wrong at best. I actually ended up using instructions from a KwiK kit my friend had. The connectors were also a great disappointment. I ended up buying all new in-line splices (the weatherproof ones with shrink sleeve on them) instead of using the rather chinsy ones that came with the kit. The Rebel Wire kit I put in my T-Bucket was almost $200 cheaper, had roughly the same instructions, and didn't come with any connectors (which I didn't have a problem with because it was so cheap). The wire and fuse box were the same, if not better quality and made in U.S.A. I realize this is a "Universal Kit", but it should be about $150 cheaper. It seems like the Kwik kits have much better instructions (color coded for dummies like me).

5.0/5.05.0/5.05.0/5.05.0/5.05.0/5.0   top of the line

I just got done installing 2 Painless systems in streetrods and I have to say they are 'top of the line'. When I called tech support with questions I never waited more than 2 minutes. I got good answers that really worked. They just said "Here is what you do......" I wrote it down and did it and wow it worked!!! No problems at all. They even helped interface with other products like MSD.

At the same time as I did the last one I got to see one of the competitors systems being installed in the stall next to me. It seemed like every other word coming across the isle was "@#$% wiring system". I was so glad I had a Painless system that I almost sent 'Jason" a valentine. haha

I think the best thing is that all of the Painless manuals are on their web site so you can look them up and check out additional accessories and how they hook up.

You get what you pay for.

Revising an older custom and when I got to the wiring I had some questions for Painless and they delt with me without acting like I was a pain in the neck like many of the techs do when they don't smell money. I would like to see their prices come dow a bit though.

Painless is Right. I am by no means great at electrical, but this kit was VERY simple. I highly recommend it to anyone building a rod.

5.0/5.05.0/5.05.0/5.05.0/5.05.0/5.0   Expensive but you get what you pay for!

First time that I used a painless wire harness I discovered that it was easy to install, had very good instructions and worked with no problems. Imagine that, something that actually works as good as the manufacture claims! Cost more than some others, But you get what you pay for.
