The owner of this Ford is a close friend of mine. He purchased the car around 5 years ago from a classic car dealership in Orange County, CA. It was an older restoration, but the car wasn’t driven much. The car was built sometime in the late 1990’s. It had its safety inspection for title in 2000. The current owner told me he bought the car because of how straight and perfect the bodywork was and, because it was an all steel original body (except for the back fenders). Although the current owner is a Porsche guy at heart, he just fell in love with the lines and simplistic styling of this classic car. However, accustomed to the quality and driving experience of German cars, he expected the same from this car. So, over the next 5 years and 2,500 miles of driving, he invested another $10,000. Upgrades included:
New Good Year Tires
New Mustang Steering Rack
New ABS Electronic Power Brake Unit
New Bilstein Shocks
New Windshield Wiper Motor
New Battery
New Door Poppers
New Kenwood Radio and Speakers
New Sealed Beam headlights
Air Conditioning Gone Through by Air Shop in Santa Ana
Some other enhancements that make this Slantback so nice to drive are:
Mustang II front disc brakes
Digital dash
Budnik billet wheels and steering wheel
Modern a/c and heat
Remote doors
The end result was a car that not only looks great, but it runs great. It tracks beautifully on open roads with no overheating (even in stop and go traffic). Also, its stopping ability is equally impressive.
The previous owner did the majority of the restoration. It was a frame-off/pro-built restoration. The drivetrain used was a Chevrolet 350 engine and transmission with a Ford 9” rear end.
This is an older restoration that really looks nice and would easily make a great driver for daily use or your local cruise nights. Everything works properly. The paint is in good condition with a few small signs of patina. The interior is in equally as nice condition with some expected minor wear on the driver seat. The front engine covers are included with the car (see pics) but the current owner preferred the look of the engine exposed.
California registration is paid through April of 2013.
