Description: I am selling this car for a friend. Her father passed away about a year ago and she would love to keep his cars, but lacks the ability or desire to maintain them. She asked me to check each one over, and handle selling them.

It's a 1956 Bel Air 2dr Sedan (post body). It was built at the Atlanta plant and is an original V8 car. It's black now, but the original color was green. The interior is in great shape, it has an Impala steering wheel, but the rest is stock ’56. The radio, clock and gauges all work. The weather stripping has been replaced at some point, and it seals well. The glass is in fair condition, with a few scratches and a small crack on the passenger side.

The chrome looks to be mostly original and is in good condition, except for around the front signals where it has a little surface rust. The taillights are new and possibly the bumpers. The paint is “good” also, with just a few small chips and scratches here and there.

There is no rust that I could see. I’m sure there has to be some surface rust under the road grime on the frame, but there was no “rot” that I could find. This is a very solid car.

Going by the engine numbers, it’s a 275 hp 327 from a ’66 fullsize car. The head numbers seem to coincide with that too. The original Holley was replaced with an Edelbrock carb and it has headers. Behind that is a 4 speed Muncie with a Hurst shifter. I have the numbers off it somewhere, but I couldn’t determine which one it was. It does have a 26 spline output, if that means anything.

It has a fairly new power steering conversion and manual disc/drum brakes. The left rear wheel cylinder was leaking, so I put on two new ones, new shoes, and new drums (all Raybestos parts). The self-adjusting hardware kit looked pretty fresh, so it went back on. The rear springs are fairly new, but the front end could use a rebuild someday. Still, it drives and handles like a much newer car. It does have sway bars front and rear, which may have something to do with that.

I described everything as “good” because it isn’t a 100 point show car, just a solid, drivable hot rod. Enjoy it as is or blow it apart and re-finish everything. A cosmetic resto would make this a VERY nice car.

The market is all over the place on these cars, and the current economic situation isn’t helping, so I’m going to start it out at $22,000. Feel free to let me know if you think the price is way out of line, or PM me if you have questions.

I do have a trailer, so I could be persuaded to deliver the car a reasonable distance for the right compensation.

***To clarify, since I have had a lot of offers to trade, she is not interested in any trades. If she could manage an extra car or two, she'd just keep this one. Thanks again for the offers, though.

***Another thing - Alabama is a "no title before 1975" state. This car does not have a title. But, she has all the documentation going back to when he originally purchased the car. It has a current AL registration also. On top of that, we will try to do whatever is needed to make sure you don't have problems getting a title in another state. We can get the bill of sale notorized, whatever. Everything about the car should be clean, clear, and legal.
