01 Ford F-250 Tranny issues

Hey guys! My daily driver is a 2001 Ford F-250 7.3 powerstroke auto 2wd. Recently the transmission started acting up. it was rebuilt about 3 years ago. The reverse sometimes just wont work at all, sometimes it works a little, but it shutters really bad then goes. now it seems like the overdrive isn't working at all. it is shifting really hard and the overdrive light on the shifter is blinking. Any idea whats going on guys? I really need help. This is my transportation to work and I cant afford to rebuild it right now. Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance. Jake

the flashing od light means there are "codes" relating to the trans stored in the pcm access them and they will help diagnose what is wrong

How would I go about accessing them? Is that something they could do at oreillys or autozone?

it would be worth a try, the sophistication of the test equipment has a lot to do with it. codes 0-999 are available by law to any code reader but codes 1000 and up are used buy the factory for advanced diagnosis and other diagnostics systems such as air bags, anti-lock brakes , air suspension etc.

Flashing OD lite indicates codes as mentioned here. With codes in system the computer deletes use of OD and raises line pressure (harsh shifts).

These trans historically have slow reverse Engadgement. 3 clutch packs come on at once. The shutter in R indicates a problem. Could be hard seals, loose clearance. There is a method to set the reverse clutch up with tighter clearance. Your builder may not know this method.

Read codes, clear codes, run main line pressure test on all gears. Watch pressure in reverse, should boost up from forward gears

Trans codes are P0700 and to P0799. Autozone code reader may not give you specific P07XX codes as they are trans codes.
You will need a better scanner .
