05 crown vic misfire

I have an 05 Crown Vic interceptor with a misfire code for cyls 1 and 2, and an intermittent code for the coil on cyl 4. Knowing the problems with COPs on 4.6s I replaced the coil on 4 but no change. The injectors on 1 and 2 will fire for about 1 minute, then quit firing for about a minute. (diagnosed with a screwdriver to my ear). Testing with a noid light shows that the pulse quits during that time, so the its not the injectors.

Any thoughts?

How old are the sparkplugs. Intake is not leaking coolant and filling spark plug holes with coolant.Injectors will shut off if no spark, obd 2 stuff.

Spark plugs are brand new (as a first attempt to solve the misfire). No coolant leaks into the plug wells. I also tested spark - spark was consistent blue/white arc all the time even when the noid light wasn't flashing.

Check the harness that feeds the injectors. We have seen connection issues with them. Check for power at the injector when it is not pulsing. The ECm pulls up the ground. One side of that injector should have power all the time

I get it... to see if the noid light stops pulsing because the ECM is interrupting the ground pulse or the harness has stopped supplying 12v.

Got it, thanks.

Ok... constant 12v to the harness, so the ECM must be stopping the signal. If new plugs and a new coil (swapped around to all cylinders) didn't fix it, what's next?. I found cheap cam and crank position sensors, so I put the cam sensor in with no change. Crank position sensor will go in when I get time later today. I was thinking if the crank sensor is saying its misfiring and dropping injector pulses that might be the issue.

If that doesn't fix it, what next? Compression test?

I would get a diagram and check for a common ground. Those are fairly high current so you may see that the ground paths are split.

You may also want to check at the ecm end for a bad connection. According to the diagram I have the injectors in question are pins 2 3 and 5 for 1 2 and 4.
The ecm is in the engine compartment so there is always a possibility that the connector is corroded or damaged.
I dont think your CPS theory is valid, sound like heat is getting to a connection or the ECM itself has a bad connection.

I agree with t bucket.check the wiring from the injectors to the pcm.
I have had some ford pcm's that the pin connection is compromised on the board where it is soldered fast.Could also be the output driver itself.
Also the cam wear issue you mentioned has long since been rectified.
