well i ran a best of 7.8003 today and when we went into elimanations i was put out by a sand bagger in the second round.
we had 2 classes because there was only 30 cars they made the slow class 7.50 and slower and the fast was 7.49 and faster. 15 in each class. well this guy had 7.50 on his window and he just cought up to me then stayed beside me to win. i asked him why he dident go in the fast class and he said they told him if he wanted to run any faster then 7.50 he had to have a rollbar. needless to say he went on to win. aperrently hes won the last two races in this class. plus the last three friday night street drags. he says he going to have a rollbar put in over the winter. but i dont care next time i line up beside him he's going down. |

If you run him again, do it to him. Launch about 3/4 throttle and at the sixty nail it, then back off to 3/4 again nail it when you see the stripe. Do it until you get it consistent at it. Then when you race this guy next you'll throw off his timing. Don't put the dial in on your window until you get to the box, he'll look like a monkey porking a football trying to do a burnout and set the delay box. Bracket racers are ritualistic in how and when they do things. Upset that ritual and it might make him cut a bad light and break out trying to play catch-up.
It won't guarantee a win but it'll frustrate the hell out of him and you just might win. Larry |

my car is a 1980 trans am with a 76 firebird front end.
when i got it it had a blown pontiac 455 with a super t10 tranny. i yanked the motor and put the 454 from my 1970 ss elcamino in it. its way faster then it was last year. i got the car off a good friend of mine last year. we had a deal going i work on it for free and he lets me race it on the weekends. then when he blew up the motor he said thats it im selling it. so he wanted 4000 bucks for it with a blown motor. i said i just wanted the body but when i started to take it apart i saw it had a centerforce cluch brand new flywheel 7 quart oil pan hi pressur oil pump all comp cams valvetrain. forged pistons, two intake manafolds a torker on it, and a duel plane in the trunk. 750 holley race carb, super t10 tranny, line lock, holley blue fuel pump, subframe connectors. and the body is in very good shape so i thought what the hell. so i gave him 4 grand and put the 454 from my elcamino in it. last year the best i could do with the 455 was 8.45 in the 1/8 mile. spinning in first and a bit in second . i think if i had the slicks i have now it might have done a 8.00 but i'll never know. so in sted of rebuilding the 455. i took the 454 from my elcamino thats bin sitting for 4 years, primed the oilpump put the distributer back in and it fired right away. and my first pass i was in the 7s.(7.95) i was thrilled needless to say. anyways now you know the rest of the story. p.s. wanna buy a pontiac 455. heres a few more pics at the trac this weekend.
i got 3rd place in my class. there was only fifty cars so thay made the split at 7.50 and slower and 7.49 and faster. i was in the 7.50 and slower. i ran a best of 7.853 i had a 7.8 dial in. it rained on saterday till 2pm then it warmed up and dryed the track we were racing by 3:30 and all done by 6. 27 cars on saterday. we ran a king of the tarmac where everybody was in the same bracket, because there wasent enuff cars for two classes. when its nice and theres lots of cars we run sportsman, pro, and pro outlaw. pro outlaw is twenty bucks more but winner takes all theres no second. plus you run a pro tree in outlaw.
