I had to put intake gaskets on a 454 now wont start when i put distributor back in rotor keps going to # 8 was told #1 was the terminal just forward of the connector(hei) is thic correct or not. i put #1 tdc on compression many times but dist falls in with rotor terminal 2 from connector

Someone correct me if im wrong , but it doesnt matter where your rotor points as long as you are on TDC and you use the correct firing order. On my 454 i made sure the rotor was pionted at the #1 cylinder ( because its easy to remember when you reinstall the dist.), which is two terminals in front of the Hei hook up.

If you did not change anything. The first one fwd of the connector is #2. #1 will be just after that one looking down clockwise
