re: 1 Piece Oil Pan Gasket Question

The gasket is to be applied dry, do not use any adhesives or sealers. It fits pretty tightly on the timing cover bottom and the top of the rear main bearing cap so that will hold it in place. Install all the bolts before you tighten any down then tighten in a criss-cross pattern starting in the middle. Do not over tighten, if you see the gasket start to squish out from under the pan that is too tight.

What do you mean by criss cross pattern?

Tighten bolts in an "X" pattern. Do one on the left center then do one on the right center. Move to the next one then do the the one that is in an "X" from it. Additionally you do not want to run the bolts down all the way at once. Just snug them all up and then repeat your pattern until all are at the proper torque. That should take about three rounds of tightening.

re: 1 Piece Oil Pan Gasket Question

Should I use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts?

I thought all the Felpro one piece rubber pan gaskets had compression grommets.

I guess that the Chevy's don't..... . (naw.. let's not go there, LOL.)

re: 1 Piece Oil Pan Gasket Question

Its always a good idea to apply a very small amount of silicone sealer to the corners of the gasket.I have that same gasket on my nova. It wont hurt anything and its good insurance against a leak. IMO....
