Question 10 bolt 8.5" rear end - RARE?

Are 8.5" rear-end housings for 69 camaros rare? I know that 8.5" rears aren't, but just wondering if it's worth the hassle to try to find a junker that will fit the 69 camaro perches and axle length. Also if not, does anyone have any advice on any salvage parts in the Los Angeles or adjacent areas?

all 67-69 camaro 10 bolts are 8.2". gm did not start using the 8.5 until 1970 or 71. however the nova uses the same suspension as the 67-69 camaro from 68-74. so a 8.5" 10 bolt from a 71-74 nova is a direct bolt in, spring perches and all. you will have to shorten your driveshaft cuz the 8.5 has a longer pinion snout. i have done several of these swaps and works great. scott

How much stronger is the 8.5 compared to the 8.2? Is it worth the swap?

Thanks, I knew it wasn't stock for the camaro I was just wondering if they are plentiful as far as 71-74 novas are concerned. It seems to be a great swap because of the strength and the scarcity of 12-bolts. I just don't want to pay an arm and a leg for a housing. Would rather go to a junkyard if they are somewhat available.
