Question 10 Bolt Posi

I'm looking for a posi unit for my 87 S10 w/ 10 bolt rear. I've already decided to go with 4.11 gears but would it be better to go with a new posi unit from Jegs, Summit, etc. or make a trip to the salvage yard and try to hunt one down. If I was to find one at a salvage yard what should I expect to pay for it and would it hold up. Any advice would be appriciated.....HRS10

Not sure but I think a posi center section out of a Monte SS might fit S-10.I know the open-differentials interchange.As far as price,go to all the U-pull-it yards allot of them sell stuff cheap.

all third gen camaros used the same rear as the s-10 so a posi unit out of one of those would work... or find another s-10 with posi... there is a glovebox code for posi .... here are all the codes for s-10 rears... u will find these int eh glovebox sticker:

G80= limited slip diff.
GU2= 2.73
GU4= 3.08
GU6= 3.42
GT4, GX1= 3.73
GT5= 4.10

hell u coudl get teh geras and the posi unit if u coudl find one that had 4.10.. i bet the 4.10 came withthe 1.9l 4 cylinder. also, what year s-10? in 88 they changed to a 7 5/8 inch rear as opposed to teh 7-1/2 although i thinkt eh gears and posi unit would interchange, but not sure.

hope this helps
