I installed a stock GM posi with 3.73s in a 72 10 bolt 8.5" axle. This unit had about 130k miles on it and the gears were new, bearings have 55k on them. It makes a wahhooo wahhoooo sort of noise on turns and it only makes them I have been foolin around - hard acceleration. I noticed the spiders gears looked scarred (scrapes and lines in 'em), it was installed like this. The posi does seem to work fine. Whats up with it?

if so its a gov loc, that could be your answer

no its the clutch eaton style one, im thinkin its bad clutches/frictions cause they only slip when you turn right? or the spider gear becouse the those gears themselfs only spin when you turn right?

Did you use posi additive in the lube?

yes, I used a "cheaper" MAG 1 stuff with the posi additive already in it Dont think it makes much of a difference which company or if its already mixed? Do I need a seperate bottle of the posi stuff? I also only added 2 quarts that seemed to fill it all the way, perhaps alittle more could be added when i stick my finger in the whole. wasnt sure of the capacity, not sure if that matters.

Two quarts is good.

Use the OEM stuff, it is much higher quality additive.

alright ill change it out and see

quick Q - I heard that a old racer trick was to use regular stuff and leave out the additive, that way it would slip less and give it more of a bit...any truth to that

you dont have to drain it out just suck out 4 oz with a hose and put in a 4 oz thing of possitraction additive.............sometimes theyll bite more in the form of not disengaging and sometimes they wont engage
