I am looking for a 8.5in 10 bolt rear end for a chevy chevelle. I have been to a couple of junk yards but cant tell the difference between the 8.2 and 8.5. Can you tell a difference between the two with out removing the carrier? What cars can I find the 8.5in rear end in?
Thanks Tim |

Hey I think we have something in common. LOL
Take a look here:
http://www.prestage.com/Tech+Info/R...ds/default.aspx I have been looking for an 8.5 10 or 12 bolt for my 72 chevelle for a while, I have been told that they are dime a dozen, but I can't seem to find one. There is a lot of information on the web about what rear ends are interchangeable, but it gets very confusing (at least to me), it seem like the best bets are the 68-72 chevelles, el Camino's, and Buick skylark. Hopefully someone else here can help you out better than I can. Good luck. 406chevelle Last edited by 406chevelle : 12-08-2003 at 03:36 PM. |

re: 10 bolt quest
If 8.5 in 10 and 12 bolts are hard to find what are people doing to strengthen their rear ends? I have been looking at the currie web page but i dont have the money for one of their complete rear ends.

re: 10 bolt quest
You would first see what length yours is and find one that is close. Then lay them out side by side ; find someone with a torch and a welder , now cut off your brackets and weld onto the Ford. Install. If you have multi- bolt pattern wheels ; bolt them on. You can have the Chevy pattern drilled through the Ford axle flanges if you want. The drive shaft may have to be shortened ; if so you can weld the back part of it to a Ford back piece so u- joint will be Ford. You can also measure shafts at junk yards to fit between Chevy trans to Ford rear. When you find one the right size ,; you can buy universal joint that has small cups on one side and larger on other. Sometimes the Chevy and Ford joints are the same but the front yoke will have to be any small G m. Not turbo 400 large yoke. Brake- line should be no problem. Easy rear to work on,lots of parts available , very strong. Let me know what lenghth you need , I ve got some.
