Cool 10 bolt rear

My 70 camaro needs a new 10 bolt posi. I think it has a 373. Where can I get a replacement, Drum to drum if possible? If I replace the entire rear, do I still need a 10 bolt or can I use a 12 bolt? Let me know, I am new at this. Thanks.

How much money are you planning on putting into this rear? Doing a whole new swap is a lot more money that what sounds is needed in order for you to be back up and running well. You can get a new posi unit just about anywhere, from junkyards, to ebay. Do a search on posi units on this forum and you'll find a lot of links to sites where they can be found at some great deals. If the posi is the only thing wrong, just fix it. What's the problem you are having anyways? Swaping in a whole new 12 bolt rear with a posi and set of gears like in your 10 could cost you well over a grand, while a brand new posi only costs 400, and that's for a locker type.

If you have an 8.2" model (10-bolt with a wave on the cover), you might look into getting an 8.5" from a later model Camaro. They are almost as strong as a 12-bolt, and much more plentiful. Look for one from around '72 through '81 Camaro/Firebirds.

After searching for months for answers I called "Reider Racing" at 734-946-1330. I spoke with a technician and he walked me through determining exactly what parts I needed. Also, They sell Eaton Posi units for $335.00 when places like Summit are asking $450+. The parts arrived the next day at my house.
The best recommendations I received for street use were 3:55 or 3:73. According to the Tech at Reider Racing the nearly universal Rear end used 73 - 77 A - Body GMs were 8.5 inch 10 Bolts. Hope this helps I looked on their website they have Eaton posi's for the 8.2 inch 10 bolts also.

My 70' RS came with an 8.5" 10bolt. I also had a Plain Jane 70' with the 8.5" as well. Funny thing was, the RS was an original 307/PG car with a 2.73 gear and a column shifter. The Plain Jane was a 350/350 with a floor shifter and a 3.42 gear....Dan
