10 bolt rear end.

i'm looking for help decoding the numbers for the 10 bolt drum brake rear end on my firebird..

I've decoded some, but am having trouble with the rest..

I've got the numbers off the pass side axle tube:
GZ G049 1
G= detroit gear and axle
049= Manufactured Feb 18th
1- day shift.

the ring gear has a stamped number : GM 3984825 15 41 2 71
(i know 15 14 means 2.73 gears)

the pinyon gear has stamped numbers which read : GM2 271 3984826
and there is a painted number on it that reads " 46Z" (best guess)

on the outside of the differential on the drivers side rear there are cast numbers as follows: 678, then either a square or a 1, then 0 (678 * 0)
and below that a cast "C3")

ont the passenger side rear of the differential there is a cast "B151"

My best guess is that this is a siereies 2 non-posi 8.5" rear end out of a 1971 camaro.

anyone out there who can add info would be appreciated..

by the way...

I'm looking for a Posi unit to put into the rear end as a replacement (383 or 410's)

That 2 71 on the ring gear is the manufacture date, February 1971.

On the 8.5" 10-bolts, the 2.73 gear is considered 3-series.
