10% Ethanol fuel
 

I live in Virginia and have a 1967 Corvette w/ a 327/350 having a compression ratio of 11.25 to 1. Parts of Virginia have just switched to 10% ethanol gas and concerned if ethanol mix will cause any running and/or engine problems.

No problems at all, in sweden we have been driving with that for 20 years, it just make the youre fuel better in some ways, since ethanol has much higher octan ratio.

There won't be an issues Greg. We have had ethanol for years here is WI and have put quite a few restored Corvette motors out on the road. It will run no different on the 10% than it did on the MTBE blend you ran before.

I've been using it for almost 20 years in everything I own and that included a stock '62 Impala SS for 10 years. You'l be fine.

My cars lose about 6 % gas mileage across the board. BMW-5, TownCar, Mustang GTs, 4.6 and 5.0, etc.

We don't have it here, and I avoid it whenever possible.

My 2000 TC consistently drops a full 6 % on an interstate trip when I have to buy fuel in Illinois.... tried it several times.

Well, with the oil crunch coming as it is, the 89 octane Ethanol mix here is running the same price as regular unleaded. So I use it. /shrug

True, that makes it 10 cents cheaper per gallon by octane rating..... but when you have to use 91+ like some of mine..... and NON-ethanol is not available........ losing 6 % is no fun.

That is $ 2.75 times 6 % = 16.5 cents per gallon equivalent..... !!!!!!!!!!!!

16.5 minus 10 = 6.5 loss.....

So I lose $$$$$$$$ every gallon.

I think that since Commie China is consuming world oil at record rates.... we will never see prices lower than $ 2.50 again.

Take Commie China out of the world consumption figures and the oil surplus would push our prices to $ 1.50 instantly.

I can't say I ever notice a difference on mileage in the past with 10% ethanol versus 100% gasoline.

X, China consumes about 5.5 million barrels a day of oil. The US is a tic over 20 million. The US consumes 25% of the world energy supply. WE are the ones that need to change our ways.

And WE WILL change our ways, very soon. :sweat:

The forecast made in October 2004 for China's rate of consumption to reduce did not come to pass, and in fact continues to increase.

Commie China is the # 2 oil consumer in the world today and forecast to exceed the USA in oil consumption by 2014 (8 years), at current rates. (think about that, seriously) :sweat:

China is buying wood, steel, and oil, (etc) at record rates and prices to fuel their economy and paying for it using the USA money we send them at $ 50 BILLION dollars deficite each month.

People complain about the IRAQI WAR cost...... look at the money we send our enemy China every month because Mable shops at Wally World while her husband is working for $ 7 hr because his $ 20 hr job went to China or Mexico.

If Iran, Iraq, Saudi, the Muslims, and Commie China solely controlled 75 % of the world's known oil reserves do you think that they would let us buy oil for $ 5 barrel so we could have cheap gasoline? :rolleyes:

Go to google and plug in "china oil consumption". :(

The world is doing 80 million barrels per day NOW.

Did anyone notice the diesel Audi outrun most of the cars in the last endurance race. Think Bio-diesel(vegetable oil.) What do you think the diesel was designed to run? Make it out of corn or what ever. Doesn't even stink like petrolem diesel. smells like ...well vegetable oil.

The problem with Diesel in America is that it costs more than regular unleaded and it pollutes more. I know down here in New Mexico diesel runs about $.30 more than regular unldeaded. Over in Europe they have pretty good emissions controls on diesel and the price is much cheaper than regular unleaded. When I left Germany in Early 2005, we were paying 1.20 Euro ($1.50) per litre for regular unleaded compared to 1.00 or even 90 euro cents per litre for diesel. It's just about 4 litres per gallon for those of you who don't want to do the math. So they are building their diesels better over there. Until they put better emissions on diesel vehicles and bring the price down here in the US I don't see us changing any time soon.

Dont know if the two are related or not but it was not that long ago that diesel was cheaper than regular unleaded, then the popularity of diesel pickups exploded....
