100 strikes and your out

i have an idea to combat all the rude, obnoxious, and perverted users coming here and trashing up the place. what if we let the users of the forum police the forum? i.e. put a sticky thread up somewhere the offensive users are listed with a place to vote beside there name stay or go. if you get 100 go's your computer melts. where 50 stays and your name disappears from the sticky. i know the moderators here have other things to do than keep the trash out so maybe the site could be a little more autonomous, (self governing). it seems that a couple of the folks that come here post on every thread and have no clue as to what works and what don't week after week. i didn't mean actually harm their machine, but put a block on their ip if that is possible. i also think you should have to be nominated and voted on to the sticky as well. i.e. "i nominate auto gay for review" someone would need to second this to put it to a vote and then say 10 folks would have to say lets do this for his name to put on the sticky. i bet you can't find 10 folks on this site that have one good thing to say about auto gay but he continues to pester us week in, week out.

The problem with that idea is that some members may use the voting to remove someone whose opinion they don't agree with. A troll could do the same to you or any other member just for meanness.
The best manner we have to control trolls at this point is to report them (use the link at the bottom of every post) and hopefully a moderator can remove the offending posts before to many read the BS.
Unfortunately, moderators can't be here every minute of the day when the trolls are out from under their bridges. So, the offending post is exposed for all to see until the moderators come on duty. Maybe, we need mandatory shifts for moderators and no assigned specific forum to patrol.
Once you recognize the offending hyphenated trolls by user name, simply use the "ignore this member" option by clicking on their profile.
It's a mistake to banter with the trolls (or even discuss their immature antics in detail). That's what they want and that's what encourages them. Ignore them and they lose.

This would create a whole new set of problems.
Blocking the trolls' IP address also blocks everyone else from that IP from ever checking in or becoming a future member.
I am too new as a moderator to understand all the responsibilities I now have, but I will pick them up as I go.
