12 to 6 volt
Converting 6 volt to 12 volt
You need a voltage resistor for the guages. I here that you need a separate resistor for each guage. Since the guages are wired in series I don't know why you need one for every guage. It seems like if you put one dropping resistor in the hot line to the guages it would do it. Any comments? |

droping resistor
Doc here,
You would only need ONE main dropping resistor if the whole system was to be run on 6 volts...If you were co-mingling systems, then you would need separate drops for those items you wish to power at 6 volts... For instance ... the wiper motor, Radio, and some accessories are 12 volts and say,the heater motor, and some accessories are 6 volts, you would need separate drops for the 6 volt items. CO-mingling is not a good way to go.. The best is all or nothing at all...all 12 volt (preferred) or all 6 volt. One main dropping resistor or ALL 12 volt system. Less hassle in the future! Hope It Helps Doc -------------------------------------------------------------- PS... To the guys wondering where I've been....... The GM Police revoked my parole....LOL.......no really..... Sorry for the long hiatus ...6 months! But my computer room fell subject to a large electrical spike which destroyed much of it (this room is 1/4 the size of my house, Web design is just one of my businesses...) Shortly thereafter I fell victim to my long term cancer coming out of remission...so it has been a long road.. to get business and health back on track...but I will try to be here more often. To all That Missed Me (and even Those that didn't, your aim will get better...) Thanks! Doc ![]()

re: 12 to 6 volt
To keep the 6 volt gages, besides the voltage drop for 6 volts, you need to keep the 6 volt wending units for temp, fuel, oil pressure, and ammeter unless using the induction type (wire thru loop(s) on the back of the gage).

6v to 12v
Just a thought, There is such a thing as a 6/12 battery, charges with an alternator, all 6v accessories use 6v portion of battery. 6v starter spins faster, will live if not abused. Jerry
