has anyone ever heard of a 9.5 inch ring gear in aearly 70s 12 bolt gm housing.iam trying to obtain a new gear set for this and am having trouble finding information on it.the axle tube code reads OJ 54 or R1 o272 .any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated .this is a limited slip differential

is this a truck or car housing? i did a lot of rear setups in the early seventies (now if i can only remember the seventies!! too many magic Marlboros) the only real difference in the cars depends on what the original gear was a 3-series or 4-series ring housing, they were in chevys, some pontiac GTO, olds442 buick GS etc.
the pickups and vans were a different story, to make a long story short- you can put the car gear carrier (posi) in the light duty van and truck housing but it really isn't worth the time labor wise. thanks bob |

thanks so much for the reply bob .both these rears came out of cars as far as i know and will be going back in a car .my main cocern is the availability of a ring/pinion set for it.ive only seen 9.5inch ring gears listed for 14 bolt rears and dont know if these will iterchange
