12 seconds street Nova
okay I have a 68 chevy nova. it is a street car that gets me to and from work daily (37 rndtrip 33 of which are highway miles). I want it to b in the 12 second range when I take it 2 the test and tune next year when the track reopens.
@ the moment the car still has its original 307 w/ powerglide, open differential, and I guess the 2.73 gears, but the speedometer is off when I'm cruising. my gps says I'm doin 72, when my speedometer says 60. soo I don't kno if they have been changed or what's goin on with tht. but with all of tht and 110 gas @ the track I ran 16.92. 17.23's on unleaded. To help me make this goal more reachable me and my dad rebuilt a very PURE stock 400 sbc. cst # 3951511. stock bottom end refreshed with new rings and rod bearings. a double roller timing chain, edelbrock rpm intake, 750 qjet, and comp cam with 488/510 lift. and ported the stock heads tht came with it. and a pair of headers off jegs. SO MY QUESTION IS WHAT ELSE SHOULD B DONE BETWEEN NOW AND TRACK TIME TO KEEP IT A STREET DRIVER BUT BE IN THE 12's. I have my mind on a 3.42range gears and getting tht posi. plus a 350 tranny and maybe some heads but not sure what kind.. but after that I'm stumped help me out if you have a Nova, know about 400's or just something helpful in general. if your car is in the 12's( SMALL BLOCK CHEVY ONLY) what setup are yu running with. and remember this is a STREET CAR 70MPH CRUISES. |

Realistically; you have to match your rear gear to the camshaft and the heads. If you have a pretty reasonable budget, Id do the following
Ditch the TH350; run a built TH200-4r and some 4.10s in the axle. Learn to tune your quadrajet Add a 100 shot of Nitrous; start your learning curve with a 50-shot and work your way up. Make sure you use race gas at the track when you're on the bottle Eventually get rid of the iron heads for performance aluminum heads. Ditch the rear seat and anything else that adds weight. TH200-4R. Its a 4speed Automatic tranny that was most notably used in the Buick Grand National. It has a deep 1st gear and a nice ratio spread. Its cousin is the TH700-r4; which is a similar but more widely available transmission. This will give you the 60' you need; and the overdrive for street manners
