curtis

i revisted adantessr's drawing and had to add 1 more solenoid
this uses a 3 position toggle switch on/off/on
one on is for trolling
off is isolation
the other on is for charging with the alternator

except for the main battery, you could hook everything up with #10 wire
i would still use heavy duty golf cart solenoids off ebay
this guy has 4 of them for $60
you could use a manual switch but then you probably have more in parts and no electrical interlock.
it wouldn't hurt to put a couple of 30 amp fuses to protect your wires either

Wow... Awesome. I'm going to print and study that. Is it OK if I PM you later with a question or two?

Ooohh... I just had a killer idea.

I think I might eliminate the 3-position switch and instead ground Sol 1-3 with an oil pressure switch and make Sol 4 a normally closed. That way, key off makes it 24v without using juice to hold a solenoid, key on disconnects sol 4 making it 12v, and once it gets oil pressure 1-3 energize for charging.

Sound right?
