Is the 13 Vane Pump worth it?

Hey guys,
I have just torn into my 1989 700r4. Everything in it was stock and in pretty good condition. I am upgrading the following items:

.500 boost valve
Corvette Servo
3/4 shift kit
new bushings

I am using the Paul Zank video and ATSG as my guides. I will have to post some of the tools that I made to get the tranny apart once I get it all back together.

While I have it apart it would be obviously easy to replace the 10 vane with a 13 vane pump. Is it worth the $40 to do so?

Also, should the Teflon rings on the input shaft be replaced every time? They look to be in pretty good condition, and that is one tool that I can't make.

I guess if I have to replace them I could take it down to a local tranny shop and see how much they would charge to put on the new rings and resize them.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cool

2 things.

the 13 vane rotor is unneeded, a 10 vane is fine.

next; you can use a hose clamp and a soda pop can metal to collaspe the 1 piece sealing rings. be carefull & lube them up.

wrap the soda can metal around the rings, 2 at a time is fine. use the clamp to compress them for several minutes

The 13 vane pump was developed to handle the needs of the EC3 converter control system on 4L60E transmissions and is not needed on a 700. On top of that you WILL need the 13 vane pump housing and stator for the correct hydraulics; that will not work in a 700.
Replace the rings on the input shaft. They seperate the various oil circuits and will crossleak after overhaul if they aren't new. Why take a chance on clutch or gear train failure???
Get someone to install new rings AND size them.
