Ive got a 73 3/4 ton donor , was wondering, is it practical to use the 14 bolt center section and replace the FF hubs with 12 bolt flanges for use under my 59 apache??
thanks

I got to ask, why do you want such a huge, heavy rear end under your '59? Yes, you could use 12 bolt housing ends and after market axles to do what you want, but why not just use a 12 bolt?

A truck 12 bolt is easy to find, cheap and almost as strong as a car 12 bolt. There are MANY parts available for it and the parts are no more expensive than the car 12 bolt parts. You can narrow a truck 12 bolt and use car housing ends and brakes, along with car axles. The only difference would be the size of the pinion shaft and inner pinion bearing. Eaton makes a very good posi for the truck 12 bolt.
Well the hot rod gods were with me today, My landlord has a bunch of junk car stuff in one of the units waiting on the scrap dealer. Found a 74 chev 1/2 ton with a 12 bolt, .... and on a pallet under a bunch of cut up stuff a 9 inch. haha think i'll take the easy way out.

12 bolt truck has smaller pinion stem diameter than the car ones did.
1.625" i believe
so that would be the weaker point,,,,,, other than the shafts..
but they are dirt common....and you can get about anything for them like the car ones,... even though they are totally different shape and parts than the car ones.,
they were from '64-82 in the 5 and 10 series trucks.... and in the 10 and 20 series vans,....
'77-82 trucks and vans were random... between the 8.5" and the 12 bolt..... both axles found these years. similar to the fronts of the 4x4's... between the dana 44 and the 8.5"...... change over years....
good luck
