Its really a personal preference whether you run the BB or the SBC engine. I don't do anything with BBC engines. I pick up all kinds of SBC stuff and save it for my buildups. You have the engine, is it or was it running when you got it? I'd say go for it if thats what you want to build up.

Id build the bb if you have a little $$ to put in it, Id spend a little money on the heads, have them gasket matched and maybe pocket ported, a good 3 angle valve job and some high flow stainless valves, Then I would add a weiand stealth intake and a good cam, I have had good luck with the cc 274 xtreme energy grind, It made great power and had just the right amount of lope for the street, run about 10:1 compression and a good set of headers, you do just this much and youll forget you even heard of a small block...I like the SBC's but Im hear to tell ya a well built BB is second to none..

I'd have to say go with the small block if you're planning on trying to stuff it into an s10. The BBC would be the way to go, you wouldn't have to get crazy with the engine to get lots of reliable power, but you're gonna end up paying too much money for someone to make a set of headers for it to fit in an s10.
