at minimum you will need frame stands, motor mounts, headers or manifolds that will fit the car, a 302 bellhousing. I would reccomend a v8 tranny because even with a stock 302 I doubt the 170's trans would last long. I am not sure what else yet. Is the car an auto or manual tranny

Bogie-
Thanks for the insight. Are you sure on this stuff though? I'm not a major car dude but I'd really like to put in the work on my old 1963. Its a futura convertible 170 six, ford-o-matic 2 speed in column. Ive got an uncle who has a 260 v8 hand me down available in 3 weeks, but some have told me it wont fit, you say it should... how can i be sure? also, i know that 2 speed tranny wont cut it... its the limitation on the car already with the tiny 170 in it... what would you suggest as far as upgrading the transmission on a 63 body? c4? c5? any advice on how much work/$$ that might cost? thanks. I swapped out a 67 Mustang 200 for a 302. Man it was a lot easier back then |

'63 Falcons had the 260 optional. to bolt it in you need frame stands or adaptors. v8 springs, and the rest of the suspension stuff could be sourced from a Granada, and the rear end from a Mustang/ Maverick with a 8cyl.. trans won't fit the 170, but the crossmember will work for a later automatic..

Mustangs and Fairlanes of the era share bolt on basic components like engine mounts, engine/tranny/rear axle, radiator, brakes , springs and window glass so they can be used as a parts source. Bogie |

Keep my 3 on the tree?
Will I have to abandon my column shift if I do a 170 to 260 conversion, or is there any way to keep it stock? Automatic or manual?
