177 weiand cam question
Is it true that when you buy a sbc cam most have 4 degrees advance built into them? I read that with a blower motor you would want to install the cam 4 degrees retarded to have it at 0 (removeing the advance ground into the camshaft from the manufacturer. If this is correct does anyone know what kind of benifit installing the cam 4 degrees retarded would make to engine performance. I am not having any problems with the motor the way it is set up now. Im just trying to decde if it would be worth the effort to change. What is the benifit if any. Cam is a NX 262 with 4 degrees advane ground into it.
Thanks for any help Register now (free) or login to remove ads |

Most supercharged blower motors like the cam a little advanced just like a N/A motor does.
4degrees is typical, but not carved in stone. What ever you read or heard or.... was taken out of context probabily origionally refering to a turbo cam. eg wide(r) LSA (sometimes) less exhaust duration than intake duration and installed "straight up" or slightly retarded. The cam you have will work about the best its going to when installed as per the cam card. If you want to significantly change the power curve from what that cam gives, get a larger or smaller cam that is also blower/nitrous "friendly". Last edited by F-BIRD'88 : 01-18-2009 at 12:28 PM. |
