1931/32 chevy 1.5 ton what front clip to use on it??
I(we) have finally decided to keep the old truck and make it into a rat rod after MANY arguements with the old lady (the non-productive side of this project)! I have decided to try my hand at grafting a differant front end under the 1931 1.5 ton truck so as to get away from the Jed Clampid stock 1931 front end...I believe it to be dangerous. Anyway, can any of you guys tell me what WILL work under that front end? I saw a 31 international truck the other day and he had grafted a ford front end underneath it..can't recall what it was, I want to say mustang but it could amybe have been a pinto or maveric or vega or something. Anyway, I don't care what front end I use. I just want it to fit with a little grafting.
Another problem I have is the fenders. The 1.5 ton had what appears to be 16 inch tires on it. That puts the fenders up there in the air if I try to graft a small front end on it from a car or something. Any ideas? I was thinking about a way to cut the 31 truck fenders and lower them, but I ahev never seen an article on how to do that. I need to know what front end I am going to put under it so I can see how I am going to have to configurate the motor possision and stearing linkage and the exhaust system and all. any help would be appreciated. 1931/32 chevy 1.5 ton what front clip to use on it??
Well, I have found a 1947 front end that has hydraulic brakes so I am planning for now to use it. The only real problem I see so far is that it is about an inch and a half wider on both sides. That will put the tires slightly out there, But I am thinking not enough to effect anything. i would much rather find a mustang II front end, or something. Figured I'd do it later after I get it running.

I dont think that axle will bolt on to the springs. Because the springs on the 47 truck are wide apart than on the 31 truck.
Im having a tough time trying to figure out this juice front axle brake setup from a 50+ i think. I want to use it for brakes on my 32 chevy. but dont know any info on it. can someone measure the distance acrross the the 31 axle from out spring mount hole to thesame place on the other side?? |
