I would like some suggestions on lowering the front end of a '31 Chevy 5 Window Coupe with a stock front axle and stock leaf springs front & rear and shocks front and rear.
Thanks, Jim Santa Maria, Ca |

qajim: I think you would be asking for trouble trying to chage geomerty on that old iron. I started with a 1938 Lafayette that had same type of setup and decided to go street rod with IFS because car would drift all over the road. It was scary here in Indiana I think in Cal. traffic you would make the evening news in a lot of places. Remember it is your bod floating down the road but you don't want to endanger someone else on their way to church. Get a copy of Street Rodder magazine and look at all the nice harware that is cheaper than a trip thru the emergency room. There is a good search engine on this web site and I am sure if you search up front and rear lowering you will get a wealth of free good info. GOOD LUCK Dave E Shank

Naah lowering a 31' is as easy as Mustang 2 or Fiero IFS, I used a 1966 Chevy Van I-beam to get the stock 5-lug pattern and airbags to eliminate the leaf springs..
Check my page on EVELYN and dont miss the 95+ members on the mailing list that can answer just about any question on Chevy from 1911 to 1941 and beyond... http://www.ammoman.com/chevy ![]() |

Berk.... I looked at that site of yours. You sure did a lot of work making your own parts. By the way, I sure was glad to see you found some ladder bars. It looked to me like the rear suspension was going to have an awful lot of bind with those upper links the way you had them. The pivots on the ends were set-up to pivot different directions, causing them to want to twist instead of swing like they should.

Yes thats why I killed the idea..,
Ladders will lock the rearend without all the BS of trailing arms and angle correcting.. etc.. Just a few brackets up front and a panhard bar.. done Been looking for bars for about a YEAR now to no avail.. then when im not looking POW there they are on a friends shelf.. go figure.. Price has never been right for the ones online either.. Good things come to those who wait I guess.. If theres ONE thing I like its the LOOK of ladders on a Hotrod.. Rob 4-bars look to HI-PO, billet to me.. "OLD SKOOL BABY" Last edited by berkelusa : 09-08-2003 at 06:44 PM. |

Ugh..
After all the waiting to find a set of REAR ladders I made a reversed front set.., Now after doing that making the rears would have been just as easy instead of the WAIT.. Doh ! EVELYN, Rob's 31' Chevy TUB EVELYN, Rob's 31' Chevy TUB Rob |
