1934 Ford radiator greyhound

Any tips on spotting an original 34 Ford radiator Greyhound. I see a few at swap meets but never know which are originals and which are repos. Some say originals have testicles but this seems too easy to copy. Any idea of value?

I don't know if this is foolproof, but I think on the originals, the tail is not actually attached to the back leg.

Thanks Mike. Never thought to search for "mascots". Never thought there were so many versions either. Just my luck too. I have a 32 2dr sedan & a 34 2dr sedan but my "greyhound" mascot is a 33.

Don't think there is such a thing as "original" greyhounds for add on to the old Ford radiator cap or the hood ornament. These were after market items so any that you buy from all the Old Ford parts vendors are just as "original".

Greyhound accessory radiator caps were factory accessories from Ford in 1933 and 1934 for the Passenger Car line. These were probably made by Stant and other manufacturers. They may have the part numbers cast into them, 40-18390 for 1933 and 40-18390-B for 1934.
Greyhounds for 1932, 1935, 1936 Passenger cars and commercial vehicles were all aftermarket pieces not approved by Ford.

A little help

I have ordered my 34 grill shell and was wondering , I have a walker rad with no fake rad cap in the center. My grill shell has the piece coming off the top that fits into the hood cut out. What type of hood ornament or cap fits on that?

34 grille

The 34 Ford passenger car grille consists of the chrome-plated grille stamping, the die-cast 2pc. V-8 grille emblem (if a V8 car), the polished stainless trim band that runs around the edge of the grille bar area, the chrome-plated die-cast crankhole cover, the radiator ornament which mounts to the top of the grille and holds the cloisonne Blue and chrome-plated Ford oval emblem and meets the raditor cap at the front of the radiator neck opening, the double beaded asphalt-treated hemp grille lacing which is riveted to the edges of the shell to cushion the hood.

To mount a radiator cap you'll need to have a radiator neck soldered to your upper radiator tank in the correct place.

this is not necessary.
a 34 Ford radiator cap can be held in place on the grille shell by using a plate that spans the cap opening on the underside of the grille & utilizing a longer screw to attach the chrome cap.

Is your greyhound original?, yes the originals are different than the aftermarkets, they have more detail in the ribs, the underside will have stamped numbers as well and better made. Looking to buy an orginal, thanks
