I have a 1936 Chevy High cab pickup that I have owned since I was 17 years old. (I am now 60) It has sit outside since 1960 with the cab and bed removed from the frame. It needs exstensive wood replacement in the cab. I priced a kit for $1200 +. That is more than I am able to afford. This is my first hot rod project, can any one get me started on this project or point me to a book on hte topic? Thanks

Where did you see the 1200.00 kit? Not that I would buy it, I'm just interested, cause I never saw one when I was doing my '34 Chevy cab.

Steve has it right. If you are looking for the original "restored" look, that's one thing, if it's going to be a hot rod, then you can do whatever you want, that's the beauty of street rodding. I used all steel, mostly channel and welded/bonded it. It's really amazing how much wood was in these old trucks! I sent you an email this morning with pics of how I did it, but remember, you need a grand worth of tools and the skills to use them, or the preserverence to learn. I'm only 55, so you are ahead of me a bit, but hang in there, you'll get it!

wood frame
You might try K.C. Wood They specialize in Chevy wood kits.
I am not sure what they will want for a 34 but a 36 low cab is less than $500. Good luck |
