I want to put a 1936 ford V8 engine (stock 85hp) and transmission in a 1931 Model A Ford. I need to know about putting in a X crossmember to support the transmission.

Not easy to come up with a good answer unless you tell us what you have in mind for the rear end. You can easily construct you own X-member from something like 1 1/2 X 3 X 1/8 tubing or 1" thick wall tubing to support the rear of the motor and tail shaft of the tranny, but you still have to marry the torque tube to the tranny and that is the simplest if you use the later model rear end assembly.

Well, I'm assuming you will be using the ford 3 speed and a stock v8 banjo rear end and torque tube. There are many different ways to support the transmission side of things. I am using a 1947 F1 crossmember. The tried and true 32 crossmember works well too. 33-35/6 crossmembers look like they would work too. Dagel's also makes a crossmember kit similiar to 33-34 x members. On my next build I want to build something similar.

Thanks for the information. I hadn't stated that I am using the stock ford 3 speed transmission what came with the 1936 ford V8 engine. I am also using the stock Model A Ford rear end. So I need to support the transmission and marry it to the Model A rear end. Sounds like transmission support is pretty straight forward. I've alway been only an antique restorer, until recently, so putting different parts together is new to me, but I'm ready for a Model A with a little more power. This car is a homemade Model A speedster. I buit the body from some old junk.
