1939 Master 85

Hello, Well I finally found the 39 chevy of my dreams. A barn find that needs alot of attention. First off any suggestions on front suspension. I keep hearing mustang II. Is this the actual front suspension from the car fabricated to fit. Why Mustang II? Any other ideas? Also rear end , what works the best? I am planning on sticking a 406 that i have been looking for a home for. Do I need to beef up the frame at all?
Any ideas I would love to hear.

PS. I am not looking to build a 100,000.00 Rod. Just a nice cruiser.

Welcome, I have a 39 Master 85 also. I would suggest a Chassis Engineering front suspension kit and their rearend kit for a Ford Granada rearend. I was completely satisfied with them. Spanky

1939 chevy steering

I have yanked the Original motor out of the 39. Any advise on steering? I am planning on leaving in the original straight axel. Do you use the original steering set up or replace? wondering if it will interfere with the small block I am putting in.

I would recommend getting rid of the original steering and solid axle. Also replace the column with a later one. I would recommend you go to some local car shows this spring and look at some street rods, ask questions of the owners and take pictures. There are so many things to consider like what exhaust manifolds you use that steering must clear extra.
