Hi Im new to the Thread and i need to know what Chevy rear end is best to swap in a 1940 Chevy coupe

Answer is: It depends. What are you after...what will the car be used for? Big motor or little, huge tires or normal? Do you have the car, or just making plans?

8" 60s Mustang is often a good place to start, for a good combo of price, strength, width, streetable gears etc., but if you have particular ideas for your car, particular parts can be chosen from.

Checking with other people's builds and their experience is always good. Google 1940 Chevrolet (or other years & GM cars) pictures and see what comes up. The ones you like you can do more research on.

If you could answer some of the questions he posed it would help everyone else help you. Measure your rear backing plate to backing plate. That is a good starting point. Then you can find other rear ends that are close to the width of yours thus making the swap easier.
