1940 Chevy Coupe Transmissions
Hey all, Does anyone know what crossmember work is require to get a TH400 is this car? Can the original crossmember be modified and reused or does it have to come out completely? How much drop is needed to clear the floor pan? Any aftermarket crossmember recommendations? Any help greatly appreciated.

Why a Turbo 400 ??
I have one in my 32 ...  but a Turbo 350 is smaller and lighter. Takes less horsepower to turn also. If I was building a new car ... I would look at a automatic OD transmission ...  I believe the 700R4 would be worth the effort to install ... especially this early in the build. That's what I am using in my new car. Deuce ...

I agree with Deuce. I have a '41 Chevy Coupe and put a 700R in for that very reason (Fuel Economy).
I am pleased with the results, as it is a Crusier and with fuel prices the way they are, I cna at least control some of the cost of operation.

A reverse "K" member used to be available from Butch's Rod Shop to mount a TH-350/400 but I'm not sure Butch's is still in business. Had one in my pro-street 41 and it worked very well. Do a search for Butch's Rod Shop and you can find contact information. There is no web site currently which makes me believe they're out of business now. I could be wrong though.

Thanks for the feedback! Actually I'm not set on installing the TH400 I just happen to have one and since I'll be running a bbc I thought it might be a nice match. I am however also considering the TH700 as the motor is not going to be a high power unit. Does anyone know how much drop I will need to clear the floor pan? I'm only looking to replace the tunnel cover with an after market. I really don't want to do a bunch of fire wall/floor pan cutting and fabrication, just not that good at it.

The tranny won't be your problem. Where you might run into a problem is at the firewall if you use an HEI that sits too high. Mine is pretty close. I just installed the MDS Streetfire. They do make a low rise cap that will work.
