1940 chevy rear end

i have a 1940 chevy master deluxe that im thinking about upgrading to a v8 i wanted to know if you can change out the center yoke and keep the original axle

I don't think so. I think those Chevys used a torque tube drive shaft. The closest Chevy open drive shaft rear end would be from 55-57.

I rebuilt a '40 Chevy rear end a few years ago. I swapped the 4.11 gears for a 3.55 from a '53 Chevy. If I remember right the drive shaft screws onto the pinion. I don't know of any way that you can use any type of standard yoke on it. Even if you did it wouldn't be strong enough to handle a V8.

My buddy has a 40 Chev Street Rod,we put a mid 70s Nova 10 bolt under it,perfect width,gotta change perches,and they are offset of the center bolt.

thank you for information what about swapping a late60 olds cutlass rear end is it possilble and how much modification is neede

Please use some periods and capitol letters. It makes it much easier to read what you are saying.

The Cutlass rear end is 1 inch wider than the Nova rear end. You are going to have to measure the rear end that you have now and figure out what wheels and tires you want to run and then decide on what rear end will work best. The mid '70s Nova rear end is 60 inches wide over all and the late '60s Cutlass rear end is 61 inches wide.
