I have been reading this online shop manual that covers my 41 Chevy and as far as I can tell the transmission and rear end take a different lubricant. SAE 90 passenger car hypoid lubricant for the rear end and SAE 90 transmission or mineral oil lubricant for the rear end. here is a link to the page: 1941 Chevrolet Shop Manual for Passenger Cars and Trucks
So I should look to see if these are still available at a parts store?

MY brother had an international scout that required some sort of mineral oil in the transfer case. In order to get it..he had to order a 5 gallon bucket of it from a local oil company.

He changed it a couple of times while he owned and gave the rest to the next owner.

No parts stores could get the stuff anymore and this was around 10 years ago.

I have no clue about your chevy, but he found what he needed that way.

If you do need that (can't switch to anything else) that might be a way to find it.
