1946 Ford Rear Leafs

Chassis engineering (and others I'm sure) sells a kit to mount a "newer" rear end on parallel leafs on 1941-48 ford cars. Does anyone know how long the leafs are or what they are out of ? I just cant justify the rediculous prices they charge for the simplest of brackets that i can make myself for a little of nothing ! Last i saw the kit was like $900, even half of that would be silly!
Thanx
Scott

I have a 46 ford, I'm going to put it on the lift tomorrow I could measure mine I have a 8.8 rearend, Don't know what these springs are out of either. I can tell you I had a CE rearend kit in my 40 Ford and they were Dodge Dakota springs.

Rear springs on '46

Thanks Terra, that would be great! I can check the length against my dakota sitting in the driveway. I guess anything close could be easily adapted as long as I keep the axle on center. How was the ride with the dakota springs?

The ride was good, I had a 4" dropped axle in front, it rode as good as my 46 with a mustang II.
