1947 Chevy Fleetmaster questions
hi everyone. im new to this whole old car scene. recently traded my way to a very beautiful 1947 chevy fleetmaster 4 door. original 216 three on the tree. 30,000 miles. someone redid the interior at one point in its life and it is very clean. it has been converted to 12 volt. the motor is pretty gutless and i was lookin at an engine swap at some point and am thinkin either a 305 or a later inline 6 or rebuild the original motor? if someone would have a similar car that could tell me where the wiper knob should have been or how to even set the clock? please help. thank you

Pay particular attention to oil pressure, if it's truely a 216. These motors lubed many key bearings with splash oiling only. If you oil pressure at speed is around 10-15 PSI, this is a splash system. Anything over about 50 - 55 MPH on the open road is a recipe for disaster. There are cures, but they either involve higher pressure, full engine lubrication, or different differential gears.
Replacing with a later inliner is an interesting concept, but I think you'd struggle to match a small v8 on a price / performance basis. PatM |
