Help, I am trying to sell a 1949 olds 88 rearend. I had a question as to what hte ratio is. Can anyone help me figure this out/ I thought you could turn the input shaft and count the number of times the wheel turns and this gives the ratio?

Yes it is very easy to determine that. This is a great HR.com school lesson opportunity. Go to the search feature in the tool bar above, go to the advanced search page and search on "rear end gear ratio" etc. This has been covered in great detail probably half a dozen times in the past couple of years.
