1950 Chevy drive train swap questions
I plan on buying a 50 Styleline, I also have a 1958 235 with a 3 speed tranny, and a Fenton dual exhaust setup. Will the 235 drop in very easy, I heard that you have to put a short shaft water pump on the 235 for clearance. Can I bolt the engine up to the 50 Chev tranny, is it the same as the 58 3 speed? Should I pull the whole closed drive line out and put in an open rear end, with the 58 tranny? If so what is a good late model; rear to use? Alot of questions I know, thanks for any input anybody can add. Robert

you will need the short water pump. chevsofthe40s sells the pump needed.. If you can get a higher ratio rear end, it will be worth it. Factory '50 stick rear is 4.11, powerglide would be 3.73. The 3.73 is the hot ticket for factory stick cars. The '58 will connect to the factory column shifter if you choose to use it..
