1950 Fleetline elec componet

We got a 1950 fleetline chevy 216 ci motor stock original. Bought from an 80 year old man who owned a full service Texaco Station and worked on this car all his life and then he bought it and got it running again. He has a 8vlt battery a 6vlt generator 12 vlt coil in the beginning it started everytime for a month. now it won't hold a charge battery is 2 years old appears new generator is wired correctly. Anybody seen this configuration of electrical copponets of a 8vlt battery, 12 volt coil, 6vlt generator. Having generator checked out today.

8v battery, and a 12v coil? 6V generators not going to charge the 8v battery without tweaking the voltage regulator. Top end that generator will produce is around 7V ( my '51 goes to 7.3V )..

Here's what I would recommend. 6V battery, new voltage regulator, 6v coil and new points/ condensor.. It's not going to run very good the way it is.

Thanks Mat167! Basically when we carried the Gen Battery and coil in for testing today Mark the owner of the rebuild company told us basically the same thing. Thanks again if two different unrelated people told me a fish could pull a wagon I'd hitch him up.
