Does any out there know if a 1979 windsor 351 motor with a starter has more than one Positive connection or can some one explain the electrical circite for the stater as it relates from the column key switch what is the electrical flow from Battery
better yet tell me where I can find a 1950 Ford 6 volt to 12 volt conversation electrical circite schematic. I am building a custom Hotrod and I gutted all electrical and now I got the Job of rewiring the whole car, I know big job, but it has to be done right, sooo, that is my delima Thnaks in advance Ron D |

Yep you have a dilema there. If you have not sone much wiring before you may want to set up a few things on the bench before you tackle a total rewire. I spoke to an Auto Electrician who quoted me $2000 to rewire a whole car from scratch. I have some knowledge so decided to do it myself. Took me three weeks and some stupid mistakes.
You need to to know how to wire a "RELAY" , how to wire an alternator so it charges your battery, how an ignition switch works, how a light switch works, how indicators work. There are plenty of HOW TO posts on the internet so have a look and start with something basic like setting up a headlight circuit on the bench , then try and fit a relay into the circuit. There are 31 pages to have a look at here. Al. Electrical Circuits - Series and Parallel Circuits, Ohms Law The starter here is similar to a Ford with the "Relay" (round can on the top) which has a thick heavy cable from the battery+ ( positive)and a small wire from the ignition switch which is also + (positive) To set one up on the bench just get some jumper leads and a battery. Clamp your negative cable to the metal near the pinion metal case and the positive lead from the battery + to the terminal in the diagram. Get a small wire and run it from the battery+ to the "IGNITION TERMINAL' as shown in the diagram and it will kick in, jumping on the bench. Last edited by 67Mustang Al.; 07-20-2012 at 07:12 AM. |
