1950 truck frame swap to 1980's chevy frame
Does anyone know what mid 1980's frame will work for 1950 chevy truck swap?
|
None.
Before we go anywhere with this, why are you expectations? A frame "swap" is not simply unbolting and bolting in the new, it takes a LOT of modifications. If you think you are saving money over putting in a front end from the hot rod shops and a different rear end you are kidding yourself. If you have never driven one of these trucks with a proper suspension you don't know if it will meet your expectations. They drive darn nice when things are rebuilt and working properly. Brian |
4x4 can be added to the factory AD frame, if this is your reason, for the swap, just find an axle from somthing that kinda matches the track width, like a Cherokee or somthing. If you want IFS, then you could use somthing like a nova clip

Take a look at this site. It's for a Ford but will give you an idea what's involved.

Before I would put another truck frame under it. I would buy a updated front end or put a Nova clip under it... As for the ride,, I had one with a camaro clip... You won't beat it.... A very big difference....But there is so many different ways you can go.... I would never go from one truck to another truck frame... Sorry,, That's just me..

frame swap question
Thanks for your insight I starting to believe that that is the way to go. I just need to find a car or truck with the right track width. I know the 80's corvette suspensions work very well BUT! they are so expensive. Maybe I can find another vehicle with the same track width simular to the corvette's
that wont be so expensive. Thanks again for your help. |

no fabrication or modification required. it's as easy as changing starters. but; before you do it... do a simple ''frame swap'' search on this forum.      |

I also have done the frame swap routine. I put a 36 Chev p/u cab on a mid 70's Chevrolet 1 ton extended cab frame. The owner then had a hydraulic dump flatbed deck built. The cab fit with minimal modifcation to sheetmetal and just had to build body mounts and radiator support. It turned out excellent. I then installed off the shelf lowering parts to get the stance. It had a 454, Turbo 400 and A/C too! Andy |
suspension for my 1950 chevy pu A-frame
Thanks Andy!
The corvette subs is the way I want to go but only one problem MONEY, but I think I'm just going to save up and buy them at one time including the assembly kits thats on the market. But if would be nice if I could find some suspensions that would work as good but less cost. Thanks for your help! Taylor |
You could go Corvette front suspension and live axle rear, that could save you some money and you can still get great results.

suspension for my 1950 chevy pu A-frame
Didn't know that either, so hopefully I can find some other type of suspensions that might work or I may have to buy a few parts at a time from one of these after market companies that sell front and rear IFS and IRS, for that's what I want to do. So looks like I'm going to have to wait a while before finishing the chassis and suspension.
Thanks for you help! Taylor |
