FORD VINs 1909-50s
Ford used the engine number as the VIN number from 1909-31 covering the Model T and Model A production.
Ford used the chassis number as the VIN number from 1932-48 covering the early years of the flathead V8. Motor numbers were only stamped in engines in states which required them; it was the same number as the chassis.
Ford went to body numbers in 1949 through the time VIN tags were installed at the base of the windshields. Again, engine numbers were stamped when state requirements had to be met and were the same as body number.
