Red face 1954 GMC V6 3 speed on the floor swap out

First of all, I am brand new to the forum and the hot rod lifestyle. This is my first project truck. It is a 1954 GMC 5 window pickup with a 3 speed manual on the floor tranny with a V6 in it. That is all the info I have in it. I am looking to put a newer engine and tranny in it and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? I would like to go to a 4 speed manual transmission and possibly a V8. Like I said, I am just getting started in the hot rod hobby and do not know too much about engine swap outs, so any info would be awesome.

First of all, WELCOME!

About the swaps. Your options are limitless, so the real question is how deep are your pockets. Also, how do you want to drive it, how do you want it to run (radical, mild, stock)? And the tranny options are the same way. Let us know, and we'll help out to a lot more detail...

Your options are really limitless. I have a 55 chev truck and we are going to go with a olds 455 and we are still trying to decide if we are going to have a manual or an automatic. I think we are going to go with an automatic TH-400 though
There are many books about the truck and how we get our ideas are just going to car shows and seeing what other people have done

Are you sure it is a V-6 and not an inline 6?
