1955 chevy HEI
Iam working on a 1955 chevy Bel Air and I am going to put a 350 in it with a HEI. Was wondering if the motor should be mounted forward alittle bit to give me some more room?

if you run the stock HEI in the old shoebox cars it can come in contact with the firewall if your motor and tranny mounts are not in excellent shape, I butsed two caps on my double nickle going over the train tracks near my house. I then converted an old points type distributor to HEI with the petronics(not sure about the spelling) kit and presto....no more problems and it works very well, good luck.

Yep, HEI won't fit with stock motor location. Move it forward, everything else needs to come forward too. Bend the firewall, it ain't easy. Early dist. with electronics inside is the easy way. It's your choice on how much work and headache you want.
