I am in the process of blasting my 1955 GMC, I have the bed done, the front fenders, rear fenders, hood, and the new engine is ready to go. I am about to send the cab and/or the frame off to the blaster. My question is, I would like to take the dash out and put all the new gauges in and repaint while it is being blasted. I am wondering if this is possible. I know in the 50's fords, which I have done, the dash comes out. I am wondering how much of a hassel it will be to remove the dash in the 55 GMC pickup. If anyone can give me some advice, I would greatly appreciate it! Marc

55 GMC dash

Sure, It does come out, and easily, I might add. It is split right down
the middle so you can take it out one half at a time, and the screws
to do it are ealily accessed from the face. A phillips screwdriver is all
you need. Once you have a half in your hand, disconnect the speed
ometer cable from the back for easier handeling and the guages are
disconnected from the back side. When you pull out the guages thay
are fitted in a seperate collar so don't loose them as they will be
needed on reassembly. Now would be a good time to decide how to
refinish the two dash panels. Hope this helps and good luck. I can
be reached at walterguise@yahoo for any persolalized questions
you might have and will try to guide you in the right direction.....

Are we talking "instrument cluster" or "Dash"? Walter is telling you how to get the instrument clusters out, but the dash, the metal painted piece that goes across under the windshield is welded in as far as I know, every car or truck of that vintage that I know is.
