1956 Buick A/C ?

I don't have a pic handy but on the A/C line behind the compressor there is a large can made into the hard line. Is this a dryer or what? Thanks for any help.

I don't have anything of value but I believe it wouldn't have a "dryer" but an "accumulator" as all GM did for years.

Thanks,I know what an accumulator is and this is not that.I did some reserch in an old GM manual I have and it is definitely a muffler.Thank anyway.
