Can you pull the rear cover and get the numbers off the ring gear?

I'm out of town this weekend but I will look it up for you when I get in town.

You might google for a pic of a Dana 44 rear cover and see if it looks the same as yours.

I was really thinking that it was gonna be a Dana 44 but the 44 didn't start being put in that truck till 1960.

1954 to 1959 is should be a Dana 45. I cant get that ring gear number to come up anywhere but being a Dana 45 it's not surprising. The Dana 45 stuff is getting hard to come by.

THANKS PROSTEET6T9 you helped get me thinking.I was just surprised to see this rear end in a 57 GMC,I was expecting a pig.I needed to change axle bearings.Yes to no surprise the bearing on the 2 axles were different looking and different numbers.the young man at the NAPA machine shop figured it out the dana 45 had 57 Pontiac or Oldsmobile bearings so I guess I'm all set. THANKS for your help.
