In the mid 80's, I had a '56 GMC that had a 288 cu.in. V-8 in it. From what I understand, Pontiac (or maybe it was Oldsmobile? The 80's are sort of a blur to me - hehehehehe) built a 288 a few years later. I never had to do any major engine work on it, but the few parts I did have to buy for it - filters, spark plugs, and such - were interchangeable with the Pontiac version. At least the part numbers were the same.
